Norfolk State University will get a treat Thursday evening, as the campus expects a visit from multiple Grammy Award-winning artist Kirk Franklin. The 31-time Grammy Award nominee, known for his groundbreaking music and unwavering commitment to social change, will appear at Norfolk State University on Thursday, April 11, 2024. He will be part of the Courageous Conversation: Black Fatherhood in America event at the L. Douglas Wilder Performing Arts Center. The conversation will be led by Norfolk State University's Jalein Livatt of WNSB Hot 91.1.
Franklin's unique energy and insight will contribute to the discussion about the importance and challenges of Black fatherhood in America. As a pioneer in gospel music, he has had a successful career spanning over 30 years, during which he created a new genre by incorporating R&B and hip-hop sounds into traditional gospel music. His hits include songs like "Melodies from Heaven," "Lean on Me," "Revolution," "Stomp," "I Smile," and "Imagine Me," among others.
